The Peaceful Warrior within

When I was born in 1946, Mr. Menzies - the curator of the Vancouver Museum at the time, and a dear friend of my parents - brought me an amulet carved from bone, which he acquired during one of his many excursions into the jungles of China and India.

Both sides are inscribed with Chinese characters. The characters on the flip side (not shown) roughly translate as follows:

LONG - LIFE - PROSPEROUS - WEALTHY

So, one could consider this amulet to be typically used as a good luck charm. The characters on the side shown in the photo roughly translate as follows:

PRECIOUS - JADE/EMERALD - FULL/OVERFLOW - HALL/SPACE

These words could be taken as an additional blessing for the recipient to receive a bounty of material wealth (a huge room overflowing with precious gems).

However, my father once shared with me his personal take on this inscription. He believed that this amulet also carries a subtle but empowering message for those who are willing to dig a bit deeper: that a sacred space exists within every one of us, and if we have the will and determination to seek out and find this space, we will connect with something far more valuable and precious than material wealth.

I believe that this sacred space is where our powerful Inner Warrior lies dormant, the seed having been planted by the thumb of the Divine Source. The moment we discover this space and consent to the nurturing of our Inner Warrior, a spiritual spark is generated and the seed begins to emerge and grow. Each seed develops in its own unique way, and each has the potential to become a Warrior for Peace.

A true Peaceful Warrior is one who walks softly on this Earth, balancing a peaceful heart with a warrior's fighting spirit.    A Peaceful Warrior dedicates their life to a higher purpose of service to others and has the courage to follow their own heart.

If this message resonates with you, I encourage you to walk (with strong strides) your own journey of discovery, possibly through self-study, deep pondering, meditation, and action.
